    Top 7 Southeast Vacations in 2017

    1. Lake Guntersville, AL and Lake Guntersville State Park- Located on the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama, Lake Guntersville offers resort style retreats and outdoor adventure in the parks.  There is an 18 hole golf course, beach complex, an outdoor nature center, excellent fishing and over 36 miles of hiking and biking trails.  January and February are popular months for Eagle watching as they migrated south for the winter.  These endangered species are celebrated every year at this time and the park programs offer Eagle Awareness programs for interested visitors. 
    2. Asheville, NC – Rated the #1 place to visit by Lonely Planet, Asheville is becoming widely popular for its artistic and creative spirits that make up the cultural aspect of the city.  Filled with bars and restaurants that offer deliciously eclectic dishes and craft beers you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the local fare.  Outdoor recreation is abundant in Asheville. The French Broad River is great for floating, paddling, and kayaking. Asheville also sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, so visitors can take advantage of the hiking and biking trails and plenty of outdoor activities for all.
    3. Florida’s Emerald Coast- widely known for its silver screen debut in The Truman Show, this eco-friendly town is growing in population.  It sits on the northern Gulf Coast of Florida and spans 100 miles full of fine white sand beaches.  New construction of classy condos has been built to give it that upscale feel of a quaint little coastal town without the big price tag.  There are plenty of watersport activities along the coast and quaint little shops with unique and souvenir type gifts.
    4. Helen, Georgia- Located among the mountains of North Georgia, this resort community has been transformed into a faux Bavarian Alpine Village with all the charm of the historical culture and buildings.  It’s a great place to visit also because it sits among the Chattahoochee National Forest. Visitors can choose to explore the town or explore the wilderness.  There is plenty of hiking and biking trails, horseback riding trails, and fishing on the rivers and streams, but the most popular activity is tubing.  Many flock to the area when the weather is cooperating to spend the day floating leisurely down the river and taking in the sights and sounds of nature around them.
    5. Gulf Shores, Alabama- Lined with sugar sand white beaches, Gulf Shores has been a popular tourist destination for years.  The beaches are pristine, the seafood is fresh and the fishing is divine.  You can also find plenty of golf courses in the area and water sports for your recreational enjoyment. 
    6. Nashville, Tennessee- Although already a popular tourist destination, Nashville has been ranked the best place to vacation in 2017.  There’s so much to do and see.  You can visit the historical spots like the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. But, what you really need to check out is the divine culinary experiences offered.  Your taste buds will be on overload from smoked barbecue to Homestyle American favorites. There are plenty of recreational activities in the area as well. There are a couple of state parks just outside the city limits that offer great camping accommodations and recreational activities for the whole family.
    7. St. Augustine, Florida- Last but not least is the oldest European Settlement in the United States.  Filled with historical charm such as original Spanish forts and cobblestone streets, the charm of this city draws many people in.  St Augustine is home to the nation’s oldest schoolhouse and has numerous beaches and marinas for your water recreation activities.  Visitors can go boating, parasailing, deep sea fishing all from various watersport companies on the marinas.  Sitting along the Atlantic Coast of Florida, there are wonderful views of sunsets over the water.

    2017 is just beginning and there are plenty of places to travel to this year.  Get out and explore!
