    Explore Horse Farms in Ocala

    Explore Horse Farms in Ocala

History was made this year when the Triple Crown was won for the first time in 37 years by the young horse “American Pharoah”.  The last time the Triple Crown was won was in 1978 when “Affirmed” took home the title.  So it is no wonder that sport of horseracing has gained interest again and horse farms are quickly filling up with children of all ages wanting to experience first-hand the excitement of horseback riding.

Ocala, FL is known for its abundance of horse farms.  With its rolling hills and limestone enriched grass, it could be called the horseback riding capital of the world, with over 1200 breeding and stables spread throughout the city.  Here is a look at the top horse farms worth visiting this summer.

Young’s Paso Fino Ranch- This horse farm is open year round for tours and trail riding.  Owner Barbara Young has bred champion Paso Fino’s at this ranch for over 25 years.  Hop on the back of a Paso Fino horse and let your guide take you around designated trails on the ranch for a fun day of riding and exploring the outdoors.

Chasin’ a Dream Farm- At this horse farm, you’ll get the opportunity to view thoroughbred race horses and even get your hands dirty and help out with everyday training rides.  Owner Chris Weiss has worked to make this horse farm a place to experience the everyday life of thoroughbred race horse. “Casper” a mini pony, has been a huge hit for kid’s birthday parties.  This pony acts as a canvas as kids can paint on him, using safe painting materials of course, and get their pictures taken to take home.

Many champion horses use to call this farm home.  Two time Horse of the Year named “Curlin” use to train here; “Funny Cide”- a previous Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner trained just down the road; and the last Triple Crown winner “Affirmed” was foaled across the street from the farm.

So, if you are just a kid at heart wanting to relive your childhood, or if you are looking for something fun for your kids to do this summer, horseback riding farms are a fun experience for the whole family.  You get to see first- hand the power and beauty that these animals possess and will earn a new appreciation for the people and places that train them.
