Top Hiking Spots in FL and TN

Local Hiking Spots Ocala, FL and Bulls Gap, TN

There are thousands of hiking trails, in every state, all over the country.  Some wind in and out of small parks within big urban cities, and many take over the rural, less populated portions of the country.  So what are the best ones to explore? We’ve got a list of a few local hiking trails near Ocala, FL and Bulls Gap, TN.

The Florida Trail is one of the longest trail systems in the United States.  It spans a whopping 1400 miles statewide from the edge of the everglades to Pensacola Beach.  It’s within 1 hr driving distance of many communities in Florida and it’s the top backpacking destination in the state.  On these various trails you’ll hike through the world’s largest Sand Pine scrub forest and the largest springs within the Ocala National Forest.

The Cross Florida Greenway, also part of the Florida Trail, is another great trail system for hikers.  It runs for 30 miles between Dunnellon and Silver Springs, FL.  You’ll encounter various types of wildlife, and beautiful views of prairies, lakes and natural springs.

One of the largest National Forests in Florida is the Ocala National Forest.  It is widely popular for day hikes and backpacking.  The hiking trails range from easy to hard and travel by Clearwater Lake, Juniper Prairie Wilderness and the Salt Springs Recreation area; thus offering many different types of activities along the way if you are staying in any area for a few days or more.

    Bulls Gap

Tennessee is home to the Great Smoky Mountains, one of the top visited national parks in the United States.  The views from the mountain tops are spectacular and many people travel to hike the trails just to see the sun rise and set over the beautiful smoky horizon.  But, the Smokeys aren’t the only place to offer great hiking trails.

Margarette Falls Trail in Greenville, TN is an out and back trail within the Cherokee National Forest and has posed as a more difficult climb for some avid hikers.  The majority of the trail is easy to moderate, with a few small portions where steep hills can pose more of a challenge.  However, the views along the 2.7 mile trail lead to spectacular waterfalls and past many different species of wildlife.

Panther Creek State park in Morristown offers 17 different hiking trails through over 30 miles of different types of terrain.  Trails range from easy to difficult but, again, offer great views of the Tennessee scenery.   Hikers can experience breathtaking views of the Cumberland Mountains and Cherokee Lake while they tackle these trails.

David Crockett State park in Limestone, TN offers 6 miles of hiking trails.  They range from easy to difficult.  Along the way you’ll enjoy scenic views of Shoal Creek and Crockett Falls.  The trails are lined with limestone bluffs and wind throughout a serene forest setting.  Abundant wildlife scampers about during the warm months so now is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the beautiful Tennessee hiking before the cold winter months set in.
