Woodall’s reports on RV Industry Growth

Woodall’s Campground Management recently reported that sales are up significantly for the RV industry compared to the fiscal year 2013. RV manufacturers across the country have been working hard to fill the increased orders from RV dealers.  It has been projected that the RV industry will see top sales in over a decade this year.

Airstream is reporting a growth of 26 percent in sales over last year at this time.  The idea of a “small house movement” and simple lifestyle are on the rise.  Baby boomers especially are trading in their oversized homes for smaller, more simplistic motor homes and trailers. The teardrop shape trailers produced by Airstream are still appealing to a lot of campers.

Behemoth Motorhomes reported shipping over 32,000 RV to dealerships across the country just this past February; the highest the company has shipped in years.

Many factors play into the increase in sales. Plummeting gas prices help significantly as people are trading in the expense of flying for hitting the open road.  Also, the idea of spending more time together as a family is more appealing and there’s nothing like quality family togetherness than in the tight quarters of an RV.  Cost is another factor.  It’s cheaper for a family of 4 to travel the open road than it is to pay for airfare, lodging and food.

Consumers also feel more secure in their purchasing decision these days.  Now that the economy is on an up-turn, people feel they can spare more on luxury items.  Richard coon, the president of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, said that “You don’t have to be rich to buy a small trailer and go camping…the nice thing is there’s something for every income level.”

RV’s can range from $10,000 up to $1,000,000 depending on the size and amount of amenities you prefer.  What’s your RV style?
